What are you Painting now?
Australia
Приєднався 29 січ 2016
Welcome to WAYPN! Short for What are you painting now?! WAYPN is about the miniature wargaming hobby broadly, we do knowledge 'classes' like colour harmony, making colours read better and such. However, we talk about a broad range of topics like Warhammer and their customers' relationship with it, what do parents think about the hobby, and many others. We focus on giving information concisely whatever the topic is. We always end in the same way because it's something we believe in, you should...

Inquisition is a bumbling mess of incoherent incompetents.
I think it's worse than that, I think they are competent and vindictive - Cal
Yes! a THOUSAND times yes! Ever since I started building and painting minis, stones, plastics, sticks, "Wait, I can use that... Can't I?" It's the world through new eyes!
I'm glad you feel the same way! Sometimes I have to tell Cal to stop bringing more sticks into the house ~Sunny
Welcome to capitalsim ;)
Badab War is always great. Got some solid gym sessions in while listening to Arch's massive series on it. You've got heroes (few), villains (most people), space marines of chapters thst people like at each other's throats, orks, the Unhallowed Heart... The Carcharadons broke a planet. The Ad Mech threw part of a star. The Minotaurs wrecked everyone they met. The Inquisition did insane treachery. The High Lords of Terra were their standard corrupt selves. And Huron went on a Darth Vader arc without the final redemption. Something for everyone.
You're gym session must be brutal with how long he takes to get to the point, but no matter what people say you have to give him credit for commissioning his own art. He is very thorough - Cal
When I was a kid we had a ton of war hammer stuff but nothing ever really went Together so now I'm making my own space wolf cheaper with all the random Marines I have
Imho the only real issue is that the numbers of the pieces are assigned as they appear on the instructions instead of being ordered on the sprew. And maybe the way they're sliced, but what do we really know... i prefer good qc to prevent bad fits + detailed minis, than the alternative. Not everyone can spend time using sculpting tools and having detail is good for those that value painting as much as playing or even more. I don't care about the level of detail, if you think a detail isn't noticeable at the distance you like looking at your minis, just don't paint it.
Out of all the chapters from the Badab War I still think the Executioners are My favorite. This part of the lore will always be top tier and number 1 for me. It’s absolutely amazing and gut wrenching. I hope one day they will do a novel book series on it.
❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed - Cal
Do u have a list on paint color mix to let your paints to be brighter, like how to mix paint to make blue brighter
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed - Cal
Tbh, i really miss the cenobite emperors children.
I don’t mind complicated minis. They look better once you are done and challenges make you improve
Why do U sound so sad and tired
just recently found people washed there model ive neber had problem with that part so i just dont under stand that part.
Mould release is an agent commonly used in plastic factories, its essential a grease and though thin that remains on models. This means that your paint is less likely to stick to the model. This is easiest to see in brush priming where paint won't stick to the model. I hope that explanation helps - Cal
nah horn is just a weapon. who not want 10 meter tall kaiju ramming speed with horn.
Such a great narrative point in old hammer now it's just barely a thing.
I think they need to have a format by which they can tell stories like this again but it seems campaign books haven't really done it - Cal
@@WhatareyouPaintingnow I think there is a poor attempt by GW to write now a days. The narrative doesn't sell but every edition change or so. 40k could have done so much if they focused on one narrative point like P? Nexus, or the Crusading, the Nids, or something.
The Imperium is awful to live in, but it’s also humanity’s best chance for survival in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium
As someone who’s never bought space marines, no it’s not my fault. I had necrons and wood elves as a child.
Badab Badab Doo doo doo doo doo Badab Badab Doo doo-doo doo
Ha ha ha Badab War baby shark - Cal
To anyone in doubt : A poor paintjob is ALWAYS better than no paintjob. Even if your colours are messy, even if you smudged up a bunch of details, even if you just can't get the faces's details right and it ends up looking a bit goofy, just having your color scheme regardless of how well it is applied will ALWAYS look better on the tabletop or in your collection than some plain unpainted grey plastic. Unpainted minis break the immersion ; they break the fantasy we're all trying to delve into by confronting you with dull plastic. When I look at an unpainted model in someone's army I no longer see an Ork or a Space Marine or whichever, all I see is something that makes me think "Ah shucks, they forgot/didn't have time/got scared to paint their minis...that's a shame". Paint your minis ! It will *ALWAYS* look better than leaving them unpainted. Use the spare bits from whichever boxes you got to practice and get comfortable if you really don't feel confident but just PAINT, practice makes perfect and confidence comes by making things yourself, not waiting for inspiration or confidence to magically appear on its own.
Let’s get you a presence on Odysee, a YT alternative. I’ll follow you over there.
We are now on TikTok and Rumble which has added a lot of extra work. But not a lot of results but Tiktok has had a lot of viewer easily in the time frame rivaling UA-cam - Cal
Haven't done this much with outside things, but I do it every time I go to the dollar store. The amount of neat things I have for possibly basing and terrain is awesome! Plus I've picked up a few toy figures I plan on priming and repainting for fun. 🤓
Oooohhh yeah I had to tell Cal to put down the house plants it was getting on too many 😂 but yes!! The dollar store is the best ~Sunny
Honeslty this is great advice, its fun and exciting looking at stuff in a new light. Plus with this hobby going out for your own materials is just way cheaper. Bill Making Stuff is a great channel for tips, tricks, and inspiration on this style of hobby crafting.
Thank you for saying that, I don't know about Bill that much - Cal
More lore From the paint masters
Ha ha thanks - Cal
Not the main reason, but one of the reasons I stopped playing was that I constantly played against Space Marines and occasionally C. Space Marines. And that’s really boring.
Every time the price issue comes up in conversation I literally say: "GW fears money. If they wanted more, they'd lower the prices".
It does seem like they fear money with some of their decisions 😔 - Cal
Love you work guys, but i think this kind of specific video needs some introduction to the lore youre talking about.
Well we came into not talking about the backstory because we knew if we did, that would be a video in of itself, so we are putting up a poll very soon where one of the options will be doing a Badab War primer - Cal
I don't think the cutting of the minis is a problem at all. But I'm used to building them of course. Overdesign is a thing though. It's especially a problem when it's the rank and file of the army. One only has so much time to paint in details.
Have you seen some of the connection points on some of the recent sculps? The Krootox are connected at the toes - Cal
Huron did nothing wrong. He repeatedly called for help, not just from the wider Imperium, but nearby chapters; only to be told NO at every turn. It's no wonder he stopped paying his tithe and stopped submitting his geneseed for purity checks, then finally out of desperation than anything else, turned to piracy and becoming renegades (although becoming a full on Chaos chapter, was a dumb decision on GDubbs part and should be disregarded!). Edited.
Well he did quite a few things wrong towards the end but yeah I think you're not wrong in the way you characterize it - Cal
The Badab War will always be peak Warhammer because the Star Phantoms are in it 😜💀⌛💀
Star who? Oh right another space marine chapter there were so few of them in the story 😂😛 but yeah the were probably the best of the new people called (best morally) which is like not a high bar to cross - Cal
But Magenta isn't real
Correct 😆 - Cal
Laying in bed, can't sleep. This solid content comes in at such a perfect time right now.
Glad we helped - Cal
I just tuned in and am excited because lamenters will be mentioned. I hope... and it took 72 seconds to mention them. Yes, I like it. I absolutely love the Sisyphus Mugged analogy for how Wardens were treated. It was so funny, sad and frustrating that one just can't not mention how great it was. Technicality: it is not a matter of being an antithesis of Heroes Journey, but one the main actual ways it manifests. Huron was forced out of his "home" by the charge of guarding Maeltrom sector, he is plunged into the otherworld of fending off pirates understaffed and imperial bureoaucracy which transforms him, ultimately he returns to his home armed with that new him to bring the change to "home". Which he did, just not in a positive way. Fall is one of the character arcs after all. An example from fiction like that would be Vader from Star Wars. Or, to fit more with how Huron is seen here, Walter White from Breaking Bad. The Monomyth is intentionally designed as a term to be broad enough that it can contain pretty much every story. Ultimately the point is excellently made and builds on your previous works. There is a sense of utter helplessness in the story, that the story perfectly exemplifies the Grimness and darkness of the setting. Well done!
Yeah the Sisyphus being mugged thing was one we had to include we talked ALOT I mean a stupid amount about this but trying to fit all of our thoughts into a tight little package was very very hard - Cal
As an American, I don't like the Badab War because I view it as a thinly veiled analogy for the Revolutionary War where the British win. I do think it would've made for a more realistic feeling setting for 40k, however.
Thats because Americans are crazy self centred. There have been quite some civil wars this could be inspired by.
I have avoided commenting on this one because we avoid politics. So, that may be an American thing because it was similar to a multitude of other conflicts. So, it didn't seem like the American Civil war and unfortunately we can't really talk about them without seeming political - Cal
CMY is just BRY but slightly different. 😅
It's only about the theory of mixing. Substractive one is CMY and Additive with BRY.
@gomezzara_art doesnt additive use green instead of yellow?
@@Victinitotodilepro you are right. My mistake,
As someone who bought lots and lots of Northstar mini kits...they need to move on from their historical 28mm scale if they want a piece of that action. My Oathmark and Frostgrave kits are way to small to use alongside FFG, GW, DnD, Reaper, CMON or most of the 3d printed stuff out there. I would not be at all surprised if OnePageRules is making more money than Osprey despite their customer base being almost entirely made up of disgruntled Warhammer enthusiasts.
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully we will be making more stuff to your liking - Cal
Somehow after being in this hobby for over a year this is the first time I've heard anything about Badab beyond the name. But if this is where the lore for the Lamentors comes from i guess I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the discussion!
Imperial Armor books 9&10 are where most of the lore of the Lamenters are, outside of short stories such as tears of Raphalea and Fall of Malvolion.
Yeah @ErmEnclavehere is correct Imperial Armour 9 and 10 is where they come from and there are a lot of lore videos on the internet which cover it which vary from long and draggy to short and incomplete - Cal
This is going to be a hot take, but the Badab war is what the Horus heresy should have been in terms of narrative & character development.
I don't think a hot take at all, I totally agree, that was one of the parts of this we had to scrap we talked so much about this - Cal
some guy on the GW advisory board back in 2017 must have said i know the solution to decreasing the popularity of the tactical squad: introducing taller space marines called intercessors.
Very interesting, absolutely unclear :D Dunno nothing about this piece of lore, so yeah. Some preamble would be lovely. Went to see if there are any books on Badab war and apparently you can read about it in Imperial Armour volumes 9 and 10. And its like 2.5k us dorra on amazon. yeah, no. I guess I'll look for some lore vids instead :D
Its essentially Hurob Blackheart's origin story
What books are based on the babab war ? Anyone know , I don’t hear him mention it .?
Imperial armour volume 9
Its old "Imperial Armor" issues and its divided into parts volume 9 and 10 specifically. You can find a PDF of the different parts online. Its pretty cools stuff but as for books, none exist.
Books are mere Supplements to the codices and rulebooks, were it's mentioned a lot
It's mentioned in the Index Astartes series that ran in White Dwarf for about two years(?, if memory serves), then is elaborated a little bit more on 2nd Ed. Ultramarines Codex and Codex Chaos, then finally I think FW pick up it and knock it out the park, so to speak. I'm sure If I have anything wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected in the comments.
It was in the original Rogue Trader and mentioned through out but it didn't get truly fully fleshed out until Imperial Armour 9 and 10 as well as some side stories. It is talked about a lot in lore videos which range from extremely draggy - Cal
Huron: "i don't care who the imperium says. i'm not paying my taxes"
The meme, the myth, the legend, a lot more than that I think but yes good meme- Cal
skill issue
So as painters you guys know that colors hold a value in grey scale. If my red was your green then the value of the colors would be all screwed up too. So the lighting would be off and we know based on color dynamics that cannot be the case. So no our colors cannot be switched. We are all looking at the same colors. The visible light spectrum also proves this as the colors on there are set based on wavelengths, and even people with color blindness are missing access to the spectrum not flipping and changing their interpretation of colors and light
When I was in my early teens I was tempted by all the Space Marine marketing, but then I saw Necrons and realised they were perfect for me. Ancient Egyptian styled Terminators that can come back from the dead? Badass! The high points cost per unit also had a silver lining in that it helped prevent my wallet from being violated by Games Workshop’s exorbitant prices , as I wouldn’t need as many for a full army.
